During the first step of the gunite swimming pool process out team helps create a detailed plan for your pool, including dimensions, shape, features, and location on your property. At this stage we will provide you with a 2d Drawing of the project and also offer you a 3d design!
At Georgia Hardscapes Custom Pools we take the stress off of you and our team communicates with your local authorities to obtain any necessary permits and ensure compliance with building codes.
After all permits have been received it is finally time for the swimming pool building process to begin! We prepare the site by framing the pool shape and confirming it with the customer. Once the customer has approved excavating the area where the pool will be built begins.
After your pool is excavated and has begun to take shape it is time to add steel reinforcement and plumbing. First, the pool's plumbing system is installed, including pipes for water circulation, filtration, and any additional features like water jets or electrical wiring. Next, a network of steel rebar is strategically placed throughout the excavated pool area to reinforce the gunite shell's structure. The rebar serves as a skeletal framework, providing strength and stability to the pool's foundation. Careful attention is given to ensure proper positioning and spacing of the rebar, as it will support the weight of the concrete and the pressure exerted by the pool water. The combination of a well-designed plumbing system and properly installed rebar ensures the pool's structural integrity and longevity.
The concrete shoot process, known as shotcrete or gunite application, involves spraying a high-pressure concrete mix onto the rebar and formwork to create the pool's durable shell. The concrete is left to cure for a minimum of 24-hours before we proceed to the next step. As the concrete cures it is crucial for the customer to spray water on the concrete a minimum of 2 times a day hydrating it in order to help it cure at a slower rate and not dry out. Our team will do our best to do this for you when we are there during the work day, however on days no work commences we will send reminders to hydrate the shell!
Tiles and coping are installed around the pool's edges to provide a finished look and protect the pool's structure. You will have multiple options of tile and coping to choose and we will help you every step along the way With designing your dream pool finishes.
Our favorite part that begins to bring the whole project together is the patio! We begin by preparing the area, creating a stable base, and pouring or laying the chosen material, which may include concrete, pavers, tiles, or natural stone. Concrete offers durability and customization options, while pavers and tiles provide slip resistance and aesthetic appeal. Natural stone adds a luxurious touch and gives you a wide option of colors and design. Regardless of the material you choose to finish your pool and surrounding areas our team is ready to near the end of creating your dream staycation!
As the hardscapes have been completed it is time to begin hooking up equipment and utilities such as connecting plumbing, wiring electrical supply, and, if applicable, gas lines. After thorough tests and safety checks, pool lighting and automation may be added before the final inspection to ensure everything is working correctly for a safe and enjoyable swimming experience.
First, the pool surface is prepared by cleaning and washing to ensure proper adhesion of the plaster. Next, a mixture of white or colored cement, aggregates, and water is applied by our plaster crews to create a consistent and uniform layer over the pool's surface. Depending on the desired finish, pool owners can choose between traditional white plaster, colored plaster, or more advanced options like quartz or pebble finishes. Once the plaster has been installed we will allow it to cure over a few hours or at maximum a day and then return to acid wash the streaks out and begin filling the pool with water.
